Australia's Black Summer 2019-2020 Poster
Black Summer – Australia (2019–2020)
Part of the Global Warming Awareness Poster Series
Design by Gianluca Franzese
The skies turned blood red. Entire species fled — or didn’t survive. One summer changed everything.
This poster reflects the devastating toll of Australia’s Black Summer, when months of record-breaking wildfires scorched the country, destroying over 46 million acres of land, displacing thousands, and killing or harming an estimated 3 billion animals.
At its center is the image of a lone koala clinging to a charred tree — a stark symbol of fragility in the face of relentless destruction. The scorched landscape surrounding it is a haunting reminder of what’s at stake. More than memorial, this piece is a call for urgent climate action and a plea for conservation before more is lost.
It’s a visual record of a real climate disaster — an image designed to hold space for what happened, and what’s still happening.
Each piece is a reminder that these events didn’t come out of nowhere, and they won’t be the last — unless we remember.
The poster is printed on synthetic 4533 press, offering enhanced durability and color vibrancy. This advanced printing technology ensures that the colors remain vivid and the material withstands various environmental conditions, making it ideal for long-term display and preservation.
